Email Updates

Wairau River Wines, one of Marlborough's oldest family owned wineries, have recently unveiled their new mobile tasting vehicle – a 1980 Airstream Caravan that has been imported from the USA and completely renovated inside so as to offer wine tastings and sales.

Phil Rose, owner of Wairau River, is over the moon with the response. "We discussed a range of ideas to take the Wairau River story on the road, in the end the Airstream seemed a perfect fit. It has a great history and it is so unique – no-one can quite believe what we have done and everyone wants to look inside."

Overseas guests and journalists who visit the winery in the near future will be able to have their tasting conducted beside the Wairau River enjoying a glass of wine whilst watching trout and salmon drift past in the water, The caravan will also be used for various wine festivals around the country and will be taken on the road to promote Wairau River in the domestic market to both trade and consumers.

"What this does is leave a great impression with our guests and customers, that the Wairau River brand and the proud history theRose family have in Marlborough is alive and well." comments Dave Kenny – Sales and Marketing Manager, "how could you forget the 'silver bullet' !"

The project took around eight months as plans were drawn up, ideas discussed, family requests submitted and practicalities taken into consideration. Local Marlborough business's played a key role in the restoration. Dave McGill designed and built the interior, Beach Road Marine fitted the electrics, the boys at Wadsco Motors spent many hours polishing, and Marlborough Motor Trimmers completed the finished interior.

The caravan has already generated a huge amount of interest and at the first official outing on the weekend at the Havelock Mussel Festival Wairau River collected the award for Best Commercial Stand.
