The Philosophy of Clay
Michelle Cambie
9 April (Easter Monday) 10am – 2pm
A slow gentle day to catch your breath and work intuitively with clay. Expect a day of alchemy. This 4 hour workshop is an opportunity to relax and let the clay guide the work.  We will aim to create a piece of work easily held in your hand, possibly a piece you can literally breathe through.  Lochmara is a place of natural beauty, come along and experience that reflected in your take home piece.

A Window Into Printmaking (for grownups)

Maria Martin-Smith 13 April 10am – 2pm
Learn about the contemplative process of intaglio printmaking through the process of drypoint on transparent film. Explore your own language of mark-making with new tools and a new process. Suitable for both the complete beginner and competent artists, you can choose to bring your own 75mm x 100mm images to draw from or be inspired by the natural beauty around you.

Michelle Cambie
has used clay as a creative and healing medium for over 20 years.  Through the weaving together of clay with environment, she works intuitively with the participants to create opportunities for unique and insightful work to emerge. Michelle has an extensive background in teaching, specialising in accelerated learning.

Maria Martin-Smith completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking in 2009. After graduation she moved to Hokitika, and set up a studio “Black Nugget Press”.  As well as catering for her own practice as an artist, she runs small printmaking classes there. Her recent work combines traditional printmaking practices with sculptural elements, such as installation
