Travelling with Kids
Road trip to hell or heaven?
Some people love road trips, I’m not one of them. Add travelling with kids to the mix and it could have tipped me right over the edge, but surprisingly our two little girls have given me and my husband a new appreciation for this great Kiwi tradition.

For those of us living in Marlborough, Christchurch is a popular destination to visit friends and family and get your big city shopping fix only four hours away. State Highway one is a road well-travelled and like anything familiarity can breed contempt, or just plain indifference. Travelling with young children has meant some adjustments, regular toilet stops, refreshments and time to stretch little legs. The pace is slower but means I’m seeing things with new eyes.
WOW the coastal views on sections of the journey to Christchurch are simply stunning and opportunities for great food and coffee are dotted along the route. The Store in Kekerengu has amazing vistas and watching the seals play at Ohau Point is always a highlight. We love fish ‘n’ chips at Continental Seafood in Kaikoura and medicinal coffee and cake (after eating our packed sandwiches in the park) at our newest discovery Two Rivers Café & Gallery in Cheviot. Sometimes it really is about the journey not just the destination!
